It is Christmas at the Flying W ranch and Bobby's family is there visiting his Grandpa and Grandma that own the ranch.  Cowboy Scotty has appaloosa mare named Pepper that was a mustang. Pepper is going to have a colt and wants to return to her mustang herd up in the mountains to have her colt. She escapes and heads back up the mountain to her mustang herd.
